The human brain restructures itself according to how the user uses it! It’s a well-research phenomenon known as neural plasticity.
When you start each day with five or six minutes of mental exercise (to develop your ability to pay attention to just the here and now, free of thought) the structure of your brain will alter after about eight weeks.
The key is learning to “come to your senses” - learning to pay attention to what you are seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling and tasting without judging what you’re sensing… simply experiencing it.
This is the essence of mindfulness - which is the polar opposite of normal everyday mindlessness (you don’t have to look far to see how prevalent mindlessness is!)
Mindfulness exercises rewire the key areas of the left prefrontal cortex and the subcortical brain in a way that changes how they communicate. This enables you focus, make better decisions and solve problems more effortlessly. And that’s only the beginning!
