This Week's Reflection

Some would say that we live in dark days, that the unsettled and unsettling global and regional dramas, powerplays, wars, talks of war are an ill omen, that the exponential increase in extreme weather events is a harbinger of climatic doom, that we're at a tipping point.

Yes, these are dark days. We are, perhaps, at or near a tipping point - but which tipping point? And what can you or I do?

We play our part and we play it like we mean it. We don't throw our hands up in frustation, resigned to the apparent fact that we won't change the world. We don't allow ourselves be overwhelmed by things over which we have no control.

We control what we can. In doing so, our influence goes beyond our own lives.

There's only one thing that you can control - what is going on in your own head. If we steady our own boat in the world's choppy seas, the coherence of our flow impacts those around us - it's how someone with "presence" lifts a room or, indeed, how a negative person drains you! Our flow impacts all flow - there's ample scientific research to support this.

Take the case of (almost) 4,000 people meditating together in Washington DC, in the late 1980s, where their calm resulted in a commensurate reduction in violent crime in the surrounding area. This is one of many, many such experiments. And we now know that the rate at which our energy flows effects the very pulse of our planet.

We may be nearing the tipping point but not the one that normal crazy people assume. You and I need to change our own little world because, in doing so, we play our part in changing our world.

Let's play our part and play it like we mean it.

This Week's Quick Tip

For just one minute, take control of your breathing. You're breathing anyway so you might as well use that life-giving fact to give yourself a minute's taste for life.

Just notice what you're feeling as you breathe - that's different from noticing your breathing, it's more immersive.

Immerse yourself in that feeling... for just one minute.

What a difference a minute can make.
