This Week's Reflection

All too often, we find ourselves in a pickle. If we're not being pickled to death by the lunacy all around us, we're very good at pickling ourselves. Our thoughts are like pickling vinegar: they kill our taste for life and corrode us from the inside out.

And, yet, we know, deep down, how to get ourselves out of a pickle... we, as Nike would say, just do it. We don't stop to think - sometimes, if we did, we'd be left for dead - we just do what we need to do and, because, we're not thinking about it, there's no real effort involved.

This is what I'm forever talking about... effortlessness.

There is a well-known phenomenon which you might, indeed, have experienced yourself at some point in your life, where, confronted by a potentially life-threatening situation or being in proximity to a situation in which loss of life is possible, one is imbued with what one could only describe as "superpowers".

Rushing into a burning building to rescue a child; throwing yourself in front of oncoming traffic to push a person in danger out of the way; leaping to the rescue in the midst of natural disaster - and, unfortunately, natural disasters are more frequent than in the past... we all either know stories or have experienced what I'm talking about first-hand.

Our "superpowers" are unleashed when we are not thinking, just being, effortlessly doing.

Why wait for an apparentely insurmountable challenge to unleash your superpowers?

And, by way of something final to reflect upon this Thursday morning, all too many people feel that their daily, everyday, run-of-the-mill lives are that insurmountable challenge!

This Week's Quick Tip

There is little doubt that, at some point today, you will discover that you are so buried in thought that you are many steps removed from the reality of the moment. It's simply part of the (normal) human condition.

So, be on your guard today: watch yourself. Don't judge yourself, just observe.

The act of self-observation is enough to enable you pull yourself together again!
