THE MIND BOGGLES!!

This Week's Reflection

People are obsessed by their thoughts. Fact! People are prepossessed by their thoughts. Fact! Actually, the everday phrase that someone seems to be "preoccupied" describes the normal mind perfectly.

But people who embark of the journey into the adventure of awareness and full-on living... they're normally obseesed by their thoughts too:

How can I stop these thoughts? I'm trying to push my thoughts away. What can I do when I find my thoughts over-whelming me? My thoughts seem to be noisier than before. My awareness of my thoughts is growing (you might think this last statement is a good one but that would be you thinking!!).

Our thoughts do not exist as an of themselves. They only come to life and create the inevitable ensuing havoc by virtue of your paying them your attention. Your attention breathes life into your thoughts. Your attention is your thoughts' - and, obviously, your Conceptual Self's - life-support system.

Time to pull the plug! Time to live a life "unplugged". Time to wake up.

You don't have to push your thoughts away - why push what isn't there? You don't have to even be aware of your thoughts - that's giving them your attention. And, if you feel your thoughts are getting noisier, that's simply because you are becoming more aware. But aware of what?

Awareness is being aware of the moment: coming to and experiencing your senses. Awareness is beyond thought. In awareness we experience life - as it should be lived - without thought.

How do we get there? Well, for starters, you wouldn't want to think about it, would you?! You meditate and, then, you meditate and, then, you meditate some more. You "follow the process" and let your own awareness take you away into the real world.

This Week's Quick Tip

Discover that you have a thought rattling around in your head right now? Let it go... just let go.

Find yourself analysing, perhaps frozen to the spot by over-analysing? Let it go... just let go.

Let go of everything you thought you knew: why not even just try it for a few minutes or, perhaps, a good bit of today? Why not allow yourself experience how it feels to have the breeze on your face; how it tastes to sip and appreciate whatever you're drinking; how your stomach rumbles, how your heart beats... this is where you'll let go of thought that isn't really there at all.
