People often ask me, even worry about, what steps they need to take to change the way they behave, interact with others, take "bold action" or break life-long habits.
If you are on a journey towards presence of mind (or mindfulness, if you like) and awareness, you don't need to concern yourself with these things, these little trifles. Your restructured brain looks after all these things for you.
As surely as night follows day, proper action is the inevitable consequence of a restructured brain - action in such flow that it could almost be mistaken for automaticity - an insight into the fine line between just doing it, just doing the right thing and automatically doing the wrong thing as one used to do when one was mindless.
We're dealing with small margins and fine lines here and, yet, nothing could be farther apart, nothing could be so different, so life changing than effortlessly taking right action, effortlessly being the righ person, in the right place, at the right time.
The scientific fact that effortless proper action is the inevitable consequence of the way your brain inevitably restructures itself as a result of your regular meditation is liberating. No longer do you need to concern yourself with what you have to do or when you have to do it - action and timing are effortless.
No longer do you have to worry about making "big" decisions - what the thinking mind considers a big decision becomes an inevitable course of action to the present mind.
And no longer to you have to ploddingly plan for your future - those future nows will look after themselves as an inevitable consequence of your effortlessly turning up to this one.
Liberating indeed.
Not only does this now provide you with an opportunity to be present, just doing what you're doing, doing it right, doing it in an immersive and effortless way, this now is the gateway to everything: the next now and the momentum that we build by turning up to each now, one now at a time.
So, today, regardless of what you're doing, what you have to do or, indeed, how many normal crazy people you have to deal with, focus on what you're doing, how it feels, what you're hearing and seeing. Even smell and taste the reality of now - it is the only thing that you can properly do now.
