THE MIND BOGGLES!! |
Change Your Life | Dec.22nd 2022 No. 788 |
Whilst this week's video might start with a somewhat amusing anecdote, often it is whilst fumbling in the dark that we see the light...
How often, through our thoughts, reactions, omissions, misdeeds and behaviours do we not just self ourselves short but, through their automated repetitive nature and inevitably repetitive outcomes, do we confirm to ourselves that we were right, in the first place, to sell ourselves short?
Human nature being what it is, we always - always - demean ourselves. All these constant self-abuse begins and ends with thought. The thought creates the cascading automated follow-on and, then, the results are appraised through our self-judgemental thoughts. It is a never-ending vicious circle.
A never-ending vicious circle for the normally minded - those who, human nature being what it is, have settled for the evolved version of human nature.
You know differently. You know that, to quote my friend in Germany, there is light in your life and you know that, through your actions (as distinct from reactions), deeds (as distinct from misdeeds) and appropriate behaviour, you don't just shine your light and illuminate your way - others bask in your presence too.
So, as we head into the Christmas break, let us be responsible for the light of the world, our world. It all startes with our little world but, we know, that the greatest of journeys starts with the very first, often tentative, steps.
Step - boldly, gingerly, whatever turns you on - out into your own light... for all the world to see.
Over the coming, as the madness of normal everyday life subsides, allow yourself take time to bask in your own light, in your own presence. It can take as long as you want it to take: a mini-meditation can take as little as 120secs; sitting quietly allowing your mind to settle and find the gap or "emptiness" can take as long as you like.
Either way, give yourself the gift or a little unimpeded presence with yourself and see, feel and experience the difference that that makes, first of all to you and, then, to those around you.
You're worth it.

This week, a number of years ago, I provided a new client with a couple of mini-meditations and warned him that they were to be used during the cut and thrust of the working day.
He said "You don't know my family, I'll be using these by three o'clock on Christmas Day!"
Another Christmas, another client told me that she and her seven sisters had, like every year, been invited to Christmas lunch, by her mother, with, as every year, one proviso... that they were all civil to each other. She told me that, on average, four sisters would turn up!
That may be normal, it may be crazy, but here's to an abnormal Christmas break.
