THE MIND BOGGLES!!

How to Change Your Life | Nov.17th 2022 No. 783

We use our automatic minds for all kinds of tasks every day. Woulnd't it be nice if we could use those everyday tasks to depotentiate the Autopilot!

This Week's Reflection

We develop a couple of key skills when we choose to depotentiate the Autopilot.

The first and most important of those skills is the skill of choosing. We have moment-to-moment choices to make all day, every day. And, when we allow the Autopilot the convenience of doing the choosing for us in little mundane things, it takes the proverbial mile and continues the habit of an adult lifetime, in automatically choosing to do the more important thnigs for us: like reacting, misbehaving, repeating bad habits, repeating the same mistakes... an Autopilot is always on repeat - so it will always bring you back to the same normality.

As we stop ourselves in the midst of our ordinary everyday life and choose, we develop our awareness. In fact, the two go hand-in-hand. Most importantly, we become aware that we always have a choice. We can choose whether we meander down the dead-ends of thought or... wake up and, even more importantly, stay awake. That's one of the key benefits of choosing moment-to-moment.

And, then of course, there is the key skill of just doing what we're doing. This is how, where and when we enter flow... when we immerse ourselves in something as simple as brushing our teeth "the other way".

Like every step that we can take to change our lives, these little steps are simplicity themselves. But don't let their apparent simplicity fool you... this baby steps will change your life.

One more thing...

I've an upcoming 90mins Facebook Live entitled How You Change Your Life on Wednesday next, November, 23rd., when I will walk through the key steps to... changing anything or everything about your life.

This Week's Quick Tip

There are a hundred and one different ways that you can use the suggestion in today's video... today.

And the more you choose to do something habitual differently, the more you develop the skill of keeping the Autopilot on the back foot.

So, first of all, if you haven't watched this week's video, do it now - that's Tip#1!

And, throughout today, stop yourself as you do each mundane task and... do it a little differently.

Normal @%!*#y People!

OK, I know, last week's video explained why there are no more Normal Crazy People stories and, yet, here we are... this one's irresistable.

We're talking about chainsaw man - the guy who comes out at five in the evening and, in one fell swoop, cuts down at 40ft tree that lands on his car!

Last Thursday evening - after I'd said there'd be no more stories for now - in pouring rain, he puts a wet, slippery ladder up against the side of his house, in the dark and climbs two stories to fix a damaged shutter.

So, there he is about twenty feet up, one hand's holding the ladder - at least he has that much sense - the other's holding an iPhone with the torch on. He actually needs a third hand for the screwdriver so, after ten minutes atop the ladder, he gingerly descends, job not done.

OK... enough for now!
