THE MIND BOGGLES!!
Coaching Videos & Tips - September 16 2021 No. 722
Wouldn't it be great if you could always say and do the right thing? Well all that's required is a little presence of mind... it doesn't just make all the difference for you - consider the impact on those around you.
When we turn up to the here and now, we completely alter the dynamic in the here and now. First of all, we know where we are, we know what's actually going on and we know how to put our best foot forward. We don't need to tread carefully or gently tip-toe over so-called "eggshells" - we effortlessly tread wisely.
And that makes an enormous difference to not just our experience of the moment but to everyone else's too. When we turn up to our lives, we change the inter-related dynamic - what we say, how we say it, how we hold ourselves... we will always not just ease ourselves in the right direction but encourage those around us to do so too.
This is the essence of what modern psychology calls "authentic leardership" - leaders who encourage those around them to talk through proverbial walls! But this "authenticity" impacts everything. In particular, it impacts personal relationships and inter-relatedness.
Over the years, in working with clients who approached me purely from a business leadership perspective, clients usually remark that the first change they notice is an enhancement in their personal relationships as a result of becoming more present. The well-worn expression about "really being there for someone" hits the nail squarely on the head.
You might notice that I'm covering so-called work life balance in today's podcast. Take a little time to reflect on the balance you have in your own life and how that impacts you and those around you.
Then take a few minutes to meditate - it will enable you find the balance that you need to live a full and fulfilled life for the balance you seek is to be found between your own two ears.

Yes, I have another quick tip for you this week. Over the course of today and the next few days, pay attention to how others are behaving around you - as a client said to me recently, it's only in the last few weeks that he realises that the probability of coming across a functioning Boardroom, leadership team, manegement team or family is slim to none... how could it be otherwise - if in excess of 90% of people are crazy, what are the chances of two sane people being in the same room at the same time?
So, spend a little time observing - it might even entertain or amuse you although, I have to say, a lot of what passes for normal behaviour is no laughing matter at all.
