We spend much - some people spend all - of our waking day thinking about ourselves, evlauting our "performance" and judging how far short we're falling of what we think should be our expectations.
The alarming thing about this - and it's a scientific fact - is that all this convoluted nonsense takes place automatically, subconscious, without our noticing. We're constantly on our own case.
Now, some of us are aware of this. And with awareness comes the passing of such mental gymnastics. With awareness comes calm, presence and peace of mind.
That, quite literally, means a mind that is at peace. We don't need to be at peace with ourselves - there isn't more than one of us! We simply need to let ourselves settle into the moment and be at peace.
The paradox is that, with peace, comes spectacular and effortless action - it's only the lack of mental peace that constrains us and gives rise to effort.
In the complete calm and stillness of our being, comes a rush of energy that doesn't just fill us with gusto, it makes difference in what we're doing and how we're doing it so that... it makes a difference in our immediate world.
And our gusto causes ripples - when we start envigorating our little world, the world at large benefits. And the world at large needs you to be present, right here, right now.
Stop for a moment - just a moment will do.
What are you thinking about? And how are you feeling about yourself?
Just notice the thoughts and feelings, take a nice long slow deep breath or two and notice those thoughts and feelings pass. It's a new now.
And, in each new now, you can choose to breath instead of thinking. It'll make a world of difference.
