THE MIND BOGGLES!! |
Change Your Life | May 21st 2026 No. 965 |
An important point emerges from both this week's podcast and video: as judgemental people or, should I say, given that we automatically pass judgement based on what we learned in our early years, as prejudiced people, we're far too quick to equate people with their behaviour, ourselves included.
In fact, if or when we're using our minds normally, it is so much that we're "far too quick", the whole process is automatic.
One of the huge benefits of regular meditation is that we disengage the judgemental or prejudiced mind, we start experience people and things, the reality of the moment, as they are.
You are not your behaviour, neither is anyone else. Good people to bad things and each and everyone of us has done things that we'd prefer to have never done, have made mistakes from which we think that we can learn.
On autopilot, behaviour is both reactive and automatic and is better described as misbehaviour. As such, it is doubtful that we can learn from our mistakes other than - and this is a key learning - that we should be on top of our state of mind to the extent that we are unlikely or, at least, less likely to make mistakes again... not in the future but in the here and now.
Divorcing people, ourselves included, is not a get-out-of-jail kind of absolution. Quite the opposite - it is a call to action, the kind of moment to moment action where we take responsibility for what we are actually and deliberately doing.
Wake up and smell the roses! An old expression and one in which every word has a meaning. Most importantly are the first two words: unless you have taken deliberate steps already today to be purposefully focused in the moment, you are asleep.
But, even if you have, the possibility always exists that you will doze off again. On the basis that most people around you are dozing through their day, this is a real and present danger for you.
So, take a few moments, now. Take a few deep breaths, fill your nostrils with the aromas of the moment. Wake up.
