This Week's Reflection

It may sounds like a contradiction in terms but, I can assure you, that sitting still is what will move you forward!

We sit still to still the otherwise noisy and racing mind. And, in sitting still, we discover things beyond the understanding of that noisy, racing, over-thinking normal mind.

We discover peace of mind, what it's like, even if only for a momentary pause in the mad rush of ordinary everyday life, to not have a care in the world. This discovery alone is revelatory. It is not just possible to experience not having a care in the world, it is in fact the actually reality of the moment.

We discover a little about our true selves and our true nature. Or, perhaps, a lot! In stilling the mind that most thinks about itself, you discover you beyond thought. And, even if you only experience this for a split second, it is the kind of life-chaning split second that will shift the tectonic plates of your life - you'll never think of yourself in the same way again.

All this discoveries lead to the main event: the discovery that, to move forward in your life, all you've got to do is... sit still.

We can sit still and meditate, preferably in a manner where we receive a little, minimalistic guidance. Too much guidance is too much distraction, too little gives rise to too much self-distraction.

Or, of course, we can sit still and simply, effortlessly, do absolutely nothing. Just watch the world go by, so to speak.

In the silence, we hear. In the stillness, we move forward.

This Week's Quick Tip

A little reflection is suggested today or, if not today, perhaps over the coming weekend.

Recall an occasion or two where you've felt that all's well with the world.

We've all had such experienes, even if only fleetingly. They're what psychology calls Positive Mental Resources.

And, whilst the past is never a guide to the future, they provide us with a little insight into how it feels to experience a perfect moment.

As such, they're worth recalling!!
