This Week's Reflection

On the basis that, as we said in the podcast a few weeks ago, we get what we want when we stop wanting, perhaps I should stop talking and writing about want.

And, yet, so many people continually ask me "How can you stop wanting?" Surely, they say, that it's in our nature to want, to want to continually move forward, to want more.

It's not in our nature - it is a by-product of the mind that nature gave us!

We must remember that nature gave us a brain wired for survival, a mind plagued by tens of thousands of everyday thoughts - the same every day! Hence today's Quick Tip!

Instead of my asking you what you want, we should, in fact, be talking of necessity. For you to even experience your life, never mind live it like you mean it or live it to the full, to need peace of mind. It is a prerequisite, an absolute necessity.

Only when we silence our mind do we experience the unvarnished reality of the moment, the way things really are, the who we really are.

And only when we experience the who and what of ourselves as flowing energy, can we fully appreciate and grasp the opporuntity not just to live life like we mean it but to create the everyday experiences of everyday life that we would love to have every day.

This Week's Quick Tip

Find a quiet place where you can sit upright, with your eyes closed, for five minutes. Having closed your eyes, spend the next five minutes (you can set the timer on your phone) simply listening to what you hear.

This will not come naturally - your mind is wired to listen to the voices in your head in preference to reality.

But, simply listening to the sounds around you and noticing as each sound passes by, is the essence of mindfulness.
