This Week's Reflection

It is normal to forget to appreciate the joy of being alive right here, right now, when things are not going our way or when we'e confronted by even minor everyday challenges. Normal and... unforgivable.

As you read this, you are living a moment that you have never before lived, one that you will never live again. A moment lost in thought is a moment lost forever.

We need to keep reminding ourselves of the importance of experiencing this moment until we get to the point that we don't need to remind ourselves any more. Or, at least, very rarely indeed.

We do this by pausing, as is suggested in this week's Quick Tip, and deliberately choosing to fully live the moment.

This isn't just about appreciation - it's beyond appreciation into the realms of joy. In each moment, we should intend to give ourselves joy or, in plain English, enjoy ourselves.

And though our forgetfulness of the importance of the moment, our mindlessness, if you like, may be "unforgivable", we need to forgive ourselves freely. In this case, to forgive (including all the misgivings we might have about previous mistakes) is to forget. Or, more to the point, letting what's past be where it belongs - in the past which is a foreign land.

This Week's Quick Tip

Deliberately live a few special moments today. Every moment is, in reality, a special moment, but the nonsense of trying to handle all the normal crazy people around you might give you the impression that that is not so.

So, deliberately pause for a couple of moments, a couple of times today and see, feel, hear, smell and taste the moment. Drink it in, appreciate it - it is a moment of your life and your life is lived in moments.
