Today's Quick Tip

Enjoy the moment. Regardless of what's going on around you, stop, take a deep breath or two and be thankful for so-called small mercies.

Because, regardless of what is going on around you, until you stop and take those deep breaths, you're not experiencing what's going on around you: you're experiencing what you think about what you think is going on around you... two steps removed from reality (at least!).

So... breathe in and out.

There's nothing worse than a well thought out plan. A well thought out anything is, at the very least, a waste of your time and energy, at worst, it will send you speeding off in the wrong direction.

Plans are for the corporate world. And, even then, they are nothing other than a means to try to ensure that all the normal crazy morons who work for the company, largely trot along in a vaguely similar direction. They are a corporate tool, a kind of glue that stops the whole show falling apart.

As someone who has created many a corporate plan, believe me, I know what I'm talking about.

Nevertheless, that glue at least ensures that, generally speaking, everyone (kind of, sort of) sticks together (that's what glue does!)

But for you and your life. Or even you and your career or you and your business... plans are a total and complete waste of your time and energy - at best. For the thinking mind knows nothing. And the more you use it to anaylse, project and think things through, the less it knows.

On the other hand, there's a part of you that knows best. It's actually designed to enable you do what you need to do on the spur of the moment to move you in the direction in which you'd really love your life, career, business, health, etc... to go.

This key part of you is called lots of things. Psychologists call it the subcortical brain ot the subconscious mind (some call it the super-concious). Really successful people often refer to it as their gut instinct. Doesn't matter what you call it: it is you non-thinking mind, it's your doing mind.

And it doesn't need a plan - all it needs is what a lot of people call a vision. Put plainly, it needs to know what the success and happiness you want looks and feels like. And, by the way, it knows that too!

Who would want to own or run a hotel? No, this has nothing to do with the current Covid-19 restrictions - my comment relates to coping with Normal Crazy People... or, in actual fact, ensuring that you've put out enough food on the breakfast buffet to account for the fact that some will want to stock up for lunch or, as it appeared in one case we witnessed over the weekend, for another lockdown!

Yes, a very, very well-to-do couple (Lisa could tell by the jewelery, I could tell by the car!) were literally panic-thieving each morning... and were being completely open about it.

Well, not entirely true. Because one thing I think we noticed that nobody else did was how the lady's handbag was used to conceal multiple small pots of jam each morning... we were tempted to ask her how she carried such an obviously heavy (and noisy - with all the rattling) handbag!
